Flash Update Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8

New version of the flash tool from 02/2009, compatible to the 4.x series drivers

Important notes:

This program updates PCI cards or CardBus cards of the RME Hammerfall DSP series to these version numbers:

HDSP PCI Rev. < 1.8: 17
HDSP CardBus: 17

HDSP PCI Rev. > 1.8: 55
HDSP CardBus 6-pol: 55

HDSP 9632: 154
HDSP 9652: 108

HDSP MADI: 207
HDSP AES-32: 234

This version is fully downward compatible. The older driver can be used without the need to flash back the hardware to the previous firmware version. But to install the old driver it must include an updated inf file listing the newer hardware revision number which is part of the new firmware. Driver version 2.94(5) (HDSP series) and 2.522 (AES-32/MADI) have been updated wuith these information and are available for download on the RME website.

The Flash Update Tool updates the HDSP firmware to the latest revision. An installed driver 3.05 or higher is required.

How to use:

Start hdsp_wdm_fut.exe. The program will show you the current revision of your interface, and whether it needs an update or not. If so, then please manually select if a PCI card (desktop computer) or a CardBus card (laptop) shall be flashed. Next simply press the 'Update' button. A progress bar will indicate when the flash process is finished. The bar moves slowly first (program), then faster (verify).

If more than one interface cards are installed, all cards can be flashed by changing to the next tab and repeating the process.

After the update the cards need to be reset. This is done by powering down and shutting off the PC. A warm boot is not enough.

Note for HDSP PCI Rev. < 1.8 and the flat HDSP CardBus (15-pin connector)

!!! When the update fails (status: failure) the flash process should be repeated several times, until no error message occurs anymore. If the failure message is displayed nonetheless, the interface will most probably no longer work when the computer is switched off and on again. The interface then has to be re-programmed at the factory. We have invested a lot of work to prevent the system from getting in this state. If it happens despite our efforts, the best advice we can give is to not switch off the computer! As long as it is not switched off the old programming of the PCI/CardBus interface will stay active, and you can continue to work with the system using the old drivers !!!!

All other hardware (HDSP MADI, HDSP AES-32, HDSP 9652, HDSP 9632, HDSP PCI Rev. > 1.8 and HDSP CardBus 6-pin) includes the Secure BIOS Technology which prevents this kind of flash error.
