A dB reference level can be set in the multimeter with a single click. Right-clicking on the multimeter’s current level reveals the option to “Copy to dB Ref’. Setting the measurement type to logarithmic will allow the multimeter to measure level in reference to the new copied value. This means measurements can quickly be made in reference to a measured value.
In practice, this is useful for applications where changes in level are measured in relation to background noise. The background noise level can be measured, then copied to the dB reference field. Now the multimeter level will show as 0 dB re (user copied value). Changes in level are now easily identifiable as increases or decreases from 0. A dB reference level can also be copied in the Distortion Analyzer virtual instrument.
